Insects of Cedar Creek
Order DIPTERA
Family SCIARIDAE
(Dark-winged Fungus Gnats)
Dark-winged
Fungus Gnats (137 NA spp)
are collected with fair frequency in old field sweeps, but no attempt has
been made to differentiate them. The University of Minnesota collection
consists of four drawers of undetermined material. New York reports xx
species. Common genera are: Lycoriella, Bradysia, and Pnyxia. As the common
name suggests, larvae feed on fungi.
