The larvae of most Soldier Flies (254 NA spp) are primarily aquatic. Roughy
20 species have been collected at CCESR. The most frequently encountered
are species of
Stratiomys
(
adelpha,
badia,
discalis,
barbata,
obesa),
Odontomyia
(
cincta,
virgo,
nigerrima,
pilimana,
pubescens,
arcuata,
discolorata,
hoodiana),
and
Hedriodisca vertebrata.
Less frequently collected are:
Actina
viridis,
Berkshiria
albistyulum,
Nemotelus
sp,
Pachygaster sp,
Ptecticus
sp, and
Sargus sp. Many
of the last mentioned genera have terrestrial larvae.
