Visiting Cedar Creek

Scheduled public tours for 2007

Our public guided tours offer a rare opportunity to visit many of the areas of Cedar Creek that are normally closed to the public while learning about significant aspects of their natural history and ecology.  You are invited to join us every Saturday through early October for a morning tour of selected areas.  Our naturalist, Dr. John Haarstad offers a monthly tour at 9 a.m. every second Saturday of the month, and our Environmental Education Specialists, Katie Rian and Jon Anderson, lead tours on the remaining Saturdays.

It is not necessary to notify us in advance, but if you can contact the Cedar Creek front office by phone at 763-434-5131, it will help us know how many to expect. Please feel free to contact John Haarstad, Jon Anderson, or Katie Rian with any questions or comments.

Large-flowered Beardtongue should be in full flower and busy with bees. Also sandy blowouts will be alive with the activities of tiger beetles, velvet ants, and spider wasps. Dung beetles should be rolling deer pellets. Contrast Allison Savanna with the prescribed burning units across the road on Cedar Creek, and learn about the benefits of fire in savanna ecosystems.
